Minefield — Border Zone Crossing

The Minefield is the first and most iconic Border Zone map. A dense explosive hazard field separates Finland from Russia, patrolled by Guards on watchtowers with overlapping sightlines. Crossing demands extreme visual acuity, deliberate crawling pace, and meticulous preparation. The reward: some of the highest-value military loot in the game, including RK-95 rifles worth ~700€ per unit.

Extremely Dangerous — Border Zone

Guard patrols, explosive mines, and high-value military positions. One wrong step is fatal. Guards have automatic weapons and overhead air support detection. Unlike Area 05, Guards do not retreat — they hold ground and engage until the threat is eliminated.

Zone Overview

The Minefield represents the physical, psychological, and mechanical threshold between the safety of Area 05 and the existential hazards of Vostok. Unlike Bandits who use guerrilla tactics and can be outmaneuvered, Guards are a paramilitary force with professional training, superior equipment, and no retreat protocols.

The landscape is characterized by open, cratered terrain littered with explosive devices. Guards patrol in overlapping pairs, often positioned on elevated watchtowers with commanding views. Air support overhead can detect unauthorized crossings. The acoustic environment demands complete silence — even the sound of your own breathing can attract attention.

Mine Detection & Navigation

The minefield is not a location you can rush through. Players must adopt a crawling pace, scanning the ground ahead for pressure plates, tripwires, and subtle terrain distortions that indicate buried explosives. This subverts the fast-paced mobility used in Area 05 entirely.

Visual Indicators

  • • Slight color variations in soil (disturbed earth)
  • • Subtle raised edges around crater rims
  • • Wire or fuse remnants near blast zones
  • • Patterns — mines are often laid in grid-like patterns

Movement Protocol

  • • Never run — adopt a slow crawl pace
  • • Place feet precisely where previous footfalls were
  • • Use low vegetation as soft ground indicators
  • • Night crossings offer concealment but higher risk

Critical: Dynamic weather (thunderstorms) can shift visual clarity and mask mine visibility. Fog and rain dramatically increase crossing difficulty. If weather shifts mid-crossing, immediately seek cover and wait for conditions to stabilize.

Guard Patrol Analysis

Guards replace Bandits as the primary hostile faction in the Border Zone. They are heavily armed paramilitary enforcers maintaining strict defensive perimeters around crossing points. They do not retreat. They hold strategic sightlines, utilize automatic weaponry, and possess the unique capability to summon overhead air support.

Equipment

Military-grade automatic weapons, body armor, helmets. RK-95 is their standard-issue rifle.

Behavior

No retreat protocols. Hold ground until threat elimination. Organized squad tactics with overlapping coverage.

Air Support

Guards can summon rotary-wing overhead support. Aerial detection means exposed positions are rapidly compromised.

High-Value Loot Spots

The Minefield contains the most mathematically valuable non-Vostok loot in the game. RK-95 rifles from Guards yield ~700€ per unit, and armor plate spawns on watchtower structures provide critical ballistic protection.

Loot Type Location Value Risk
RK-95 Rifle Guard corpses, military crates ~700€ Extreme
Armor Plates Watchtower lockers, military crates Priceless Extreme
AKM Rifle Wood crates, Guard corpses High value Extreme
Military Crates Fortified positions, watchtowers Max tier Extreme

Crossing Strategy — Step by Step

1

Pre-Raid Preparation

Light loadout. No excess weight. Pack a basic rifle (Makarov for backup), minimal food/water, and a bandage. You want maximum stamina efficiency for the crossing.

2

Daytime Reconnaissance

First, observe the crossing point from a distance during daytime. Watch Guard patrol timing, identify watchtower sightline overlap zones, and plan your path.

3

Slow Crawl Crossing

Begin crossing at a walking pace — not running. Place feet exactly where previous steps were. Scan 2-3 meters ahead for mines. Use any available cover between craters.

4

Guard Evasion

Time your movements between Guard patrol gaps. If spotted, do NOT engage — Guard backup arrives rapidly. Find immediate cover and wait for patrol to reset.

5

Loot & Extract

Once through, prioritize Guard corpses for RK-95s (700€ each). Grab armor plates from watchtower lockers if safe. Extract immediately — lingering invites aerial detection.

Extraction Points

Minefield → Vostok Transit

Exit leading into Vostok territory. Apartments map is the primary destination. This is a one-way transition into full permadeath territory.

Minefield → Border Zone Return

Return path back toward Area 05 through the Border Zone. Still dangerous — Guards maintain patrol coverage.
