Highway — Extended Combat & Underground Sewers
The Highway map in Area 05 presents a fundamentally different tactical challenge from the Village and Shipyard. With expansive open terrain, long sightlines, and underground sewer networks, players must adapt their engagement distance, acoustic awareness, and movement pacing. This is where you prepare for the extreme open-range combat of the Border Zone.

Zone Overview
The Highway breaks from the enclosed Village and industrial Shipyard with a sprawling, open terrain profile. The map centers on an actual highway corridor with flanking structures, a fish market area, and critically — an underground sewer network that provides alternative movement routes and unique loot containers.
The open terrain means combat frequently occurs at distances where Village-style close-quarters tactics fail. Players need ranged weapon proficiency and patience. The sewer system offers concealment and alternate routes but carries its own acoustic and ambush risks.
Points of Interest
Fish Market Area
Newly implemented commercial zone with dense food spawns and unique containers. Close quarters but high caloric loot value. Newly added in demo updates.
Highway Corridor
Central open road. Extended sightlines in both directions. Movement along the corridor is highly exposed. Use roadside cover.
Sewer Entrances
Multiple entry points to the underground sewer network. Use for flanking, ambush evasion, or safe transit. Sound echoes heavily underground.
Bandit Overwatch
Bandits use the open terrain differently — some take elevated positions with ranged weapons. Check rooftops and elevated structures before crossing open ground.
Flanking Structures
Scattered buildings along the highway provide cover and loot. Clear systematically — each structure can harbor bandits using ambush protocols.
Vehicle Wrecks
Abandoned vehicles scattered on and around the highway. Some are searchable for industrial components and supplies. May contain bandit ambush.
Sewer Network
The underground sewer system is a significant addition to the Highway map. It provides an alternate movement layer beneath the surface, offering concealment from outdoor bandit patrols and unique loot containers not found on the surface. However, the enclosed echo-prone environment amplifies sound dramatically — both yours and the enemies'.
Advantages
- • Avoid outdoor bandit patrols
- • Unique underground loot containers
- • Cover from aerial overwatch
- • Alternate extraction route
Risks
- • Extreme acoustic echo
- • Narrow chokepoints
- • Bandit ambush potential
- • Difficult to escape if cornered
Combat Tips for Highway
Long-Range Awareness
Unlike Village interiors, Highway combat often happens at 50-200m. Use ranged weapons (AKS-74U, AKM, Mosin) and prioritize targets before they spot you.
Rooftop Check
Bandits on elevated positions have massive sightline advantage. Scan rooftops and upper windows before crossing open areas.
Sewer as Flank
Use sewer entrances to flank bandit positions rather than engaging in prolonged open-range firefights. Sound will give away your approach.
Weather & Optics
Dynamic weather can obscure long-range sightlines. The PiP scope system helps maintain peripheral awareness during precision shooting.
Extraction Points
Highway Exit → Shelter
Primary extraction from Highway. Returns you to your shelter.
Highway → Border Zone Transit
Exit point leading toward the Border Zone (Minefield). This is the transition point from Area 05 to the high-risk Border Zone.
Transition to Border Zone
The Highway is the final Area 05 map before the Border Zone. Exiting via the eastern transit point leads toward the Minefield — the first Border Zone map. Guards replace Bandits as the primary hostile faction, and death consequences remain the same as Area 05 (carry loot only). However, Guard equipment, tactics, and alertness are significantly superior to Bandits.
